Administrative – Clerical

The Job: You’ll be working for the British Horseracing Authority, playing a vital role in the smooth running of the racing industry. From dealing with enquires to sending out information and typing up vital reports, it’s an important role.

The Person: You’ll be full of enthusiasm and great at getting your message across to a whole range of customers, whether it’s over the phone, by email or in a letter.

Entry Requirements: Most people have some A Levels under their belt, but this is not essential. Great organisational skills are, however, as is a familiarity with Microsoft Office.

The Benefits: In addition to a salary appropriate to the job, you’ll get 20 days holiday, which goes up to a maximum of 25 days with each year of service.  Other perks include a pension with a 10% company contribution (after a 3 month qualifying period), life assurance, permanent health insurance and private health care.

Personal Assistant

The Job: Supporting Directors or Managers within the British Horseracing Authority, you’ll make sure their office runs like clockwork. Whether you’re arranging travel to international racecourses, organising meetings, taking minutes or preparing detailed itineraries, you’ll be the personification of efficiency.

The Person: A highly organised person, you remain calm, cool and collected, no matter how busy it gets. You have a highly professional manner and you’re used to communicating with people at a range of levels.

Entry Requirements: You’ll need at least two years’ experience working as a PA at Director or Manager level. You’ll also need fast, accurate typing skills, a sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and, ideally, a knowledge of shorthand.

Racing Operations Operator

The Job: Weatherbys Ltd. is responsible for the Racing work under contract to the British Horseracing Authority.  It is also responsible for the Throughbred Breeding Registry.  In this role you will handle entries and declarations via the telephone ensuring 100% accuracy.

The Person: You’ll need to be polite and helpful on the phone, able to work well under pressure, and above all, show real attention to detail. Accuracy is essential. 

Entry Requirements: You’ll  need English & Maths at GCSE Grade C or above.  For more senior positions, you will also require A Levels and some supervisory experience. You’ll also need strong PC/keyboard skills.

Racing Administrations Assistant

The Job: At Weatherbys you will process all registrations of ownership, colours, horse's names and horses in training.  You will recieve all entries and declarations, allocate weights to be carried in all races and hold the central file of handicap ratings.

The Person: You’re fascinated by the world of racing. You have a polite, helpful telephone manner, strong powers of concentration and real attention to detail. Administration experience together with PC/Keyboard skills will be required.

The Entry Requirements: You’ll ideally be A level qualified and have a keen interest in racing.

Pedigree Researcher

The Job: Weatherbys has the most comprehensive database which is the source of information for all its products.  This holds breeding and racing information for almost 1.5 million animals.  Bloodstock Services provides invaluable publications such as The Stallion Book and The National Hunt Stallion Book and The Statistical Record.  The role involves research and editing of pedigrees for these publications.

The Person: You need to have a great memory, an analytical brain capable of in-depth research and very high levels of accuracy.

The Entry Requirements: You’ll ideally be A level qualified and possess a keen interest in breeding.

Editorial Administrator

The Job: The Racing Calendar details full and finalised race conditions three weeks in advance of racing.  Each edition coveres one weeks worth of racing and is published weekly.  It will be your task to ensure that the Racing Calendar and quarterly Programme Book, both consulted by tens of thousands of people, are produced on time – and to the highest levels of accuracy. 

The Person: Highly organised, you can ensure that deadlines are always met. You also have an eagle eye that spots errors instantly.

The Entry Requirements: You’ll ideally be A level qualified plus experience of producing and proof-reading printed materials.
