Rhys Flint wins Pertemps People Development Conditional Jockeys Training Series
Just one week after winning the Racing Post Hands and Heels Jumps Series conditional jockey Rhys Flint has done the double and won the Pertemps People Development Conditional Jockeys Training Series. He cannot be caught going in to the final of the series at Ascot on Friday - unless he falls foul of the stewards, whereby he would lose points and be relegated down the table (he rides Barnhill Brownie for his guvnor, Philip Hobbs).
This is another title to add to his growing list of achievements – he was winner of the British Pony Racing Championships at 15, Novice Champion Point to Point rider at 16, and at 17 - in his first full season as a professional jockey, winner of the Pertemps People Development Conditional Jockeys Training Series and the Racing Post Hands and Heels Series.
The Pertemps People Development Conditional Jockeys Training Series is designed to be the next step on in terms of race riding development from the Hands and Heels series, it is for conditional jockeys that have not ridden more than 20 winners at the start of the series and unlike the Hands and Heels Series riders may use their whip but only in the backhand position. Steve Smith-Eccles, Jockey Coach, walks the course with riders prior to the races and carries out a review with them following the race.

Paul Nolan wins Weatherbys All-Weather Hands and Heels Apprentice Series
Paul Nolan, apprentice to Andrew Haynes near Bath, cannot be caught going into the final of the inaugural Weatherbys All-Weather Hands and Heels Apprentice Series at Lingfield Park on Saturday. Nolan rides King’s Ransom for Steve Gollings in the final and unless he does the unthinkable and uses his whip (whereupon he would be stripped of all points) he has won the series whether he is placed or not in the final.
Nolan rode in six of the eight races leading up to the final, and although he didn’t ride a winner in the series he was second and third in two of the races. He won the series by virtue of having ridden in most of the races and showing a consistently professional attitude as well as sound riding skills throughout the series, thereby scoring very well on the jockey coach allocated points in these areas.
Nolan will receive a £200 voucher to spend with his valet from series sponsors Weatherbys, as well as a made to measure pair of racing boots and exercise boots kindly donated by Classic Boots of Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Hands and Heels Series Jump Series 2008/2009
Conditional Jockey Rhys Flint is set to win the 2008/2009 Racing Post Hands and Heels Jumps Series. Although still only 17 years old, Flint is no stranger to winning titles – at 15 he won the British Pony Racing Championships and at 16 became the Champion Novice Point to Point Rider. He joined the powerful West Country yard of Philip Hobbs and turned professional last year and has not looked back since.
Due to ride for champion trainer Paul Nicholls in the final of the series which takes place at Newbury Racecourse on Friday 20th March, unless he uses his whip (whereby he would be stripped of all his points in the series), Flint will win the 2008/2009 Racing Post sponsored Hands and Heels Jumps Series.

British Horseracing Authority
The British Horseracing Authority launched in July as the single, unified governing body for British Horseracing. Its role is to regulate, promote and represent the sport.
A major step in the modernisation of British Horseracing, the Authority takes on the roles of the British Horseracing Board and the Horseracing Regulatory Authority, with both of those organisations ceasing to exist.
The Authority sits at the head of a sport second only to football in Britain in terms of its revenues and attendances, and an industry responsible, directly or indirectly, for almost 90,000 full-time jobs. Its inaugural Chairman is Paul Roy, with Nic Coward its first Chief Executive.
