This course provides a friendly introduction to the world of racing and is ideal for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge of racing or develop their career in the industry.

The packed agenda features talks from key figures in racing, covering many aspects of this complex and historical sport. Subjects covered include the roles of the British Horseracing Authority and Weatherbys, racing in the media, the racecourse perspective, the breeding and stud industry, the betting industry and the rules of racing.

Delegates will hear from some of the most experienced people in racing about how the various parties involved in racing work together to deliver a compelling and popular sport.

The Racing Industry Course 2010

This course is ideal for managers looking to develop their career in racing.

Prestige, professionalism and efficiency are synonymous with racing and these values underpin The Racing Industry Course. This British Horseracing Authority course is hosted by the The British Racing School at their world class facilities located in Newmarket, the heart of British racing. The school is once again offering a course covering the key aspects of racing, from it’s unique history through to many of the challenges that the sport faces today.

The Racing Industry Course represents an unrivalled opportunity to achieve a fundamental knowledge about horseracing from a wide spectrum of industry specialists throughout the racing world.

Throughout the week four themes will be explored through seminars, behind the scenes tours, and facilitated discussions on topical issues that the industry is currently facing. The course will begin with an introduction to racing, considering British and international racing and historical perspectives. The second theme will cover the funding of racing and the concerns surrounding prize money, the Tote, and the Levy Board. The practical nature of racing will be addressed through talks on breeding, training and management of racehorses including horse welfare and a jockey’s perspective. The final theme will concentrate on racecourses and the public appeal of racing, including debates surrounding integrity and the impact of the media on the sport.
