Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup
Haydock Park
6 September 2008

The Group 1 Stanley Leisure Sprint Cup is the feature race of the Flat season at Haydock Park, one of Britain’s most picturesque courses.

The Sprint Cup has a special importance as the final top-level sprint race of the year in Britain. With championship honours on the line, the six-furlong contest often brings together the season’s top speedsters for an enthralling final showdown up the Haydock straight.

The race is one of the most valuable sprints in Europe and boasts an impressive roll of honour including the great Dayjur, winner in 1990, and subsequent Breeders’ Cup Sprint hero Sheikh Albadou (1992). Be Friendly, winner of the first two editions in 1966 and ’67, is commemorated in a life-size bronze at the course.

Widely acclaimed as one of the best racecourses in the north of England, and indeed the whole of Britain, Haydock is also one of the most accessible. It is situated midway between Manchester and Liverpool and within half a mile of the M6 motorway, making it a magnet for racing enthusiasts from north and south.Haydock boasts impressive facilities and its attention to spectator comfort has been rewarded by increasing attendances in recent years. The course is particularly appealing in early autumn, making a visit to the Sprint Cup meeting one of the highlights of the racing year. BOOK NOW
