Paul Fisher, Group Managing Director, Jockey Club Racecourses, said:

Hereford all-Chase card programmed for Thursday, 3rd May – four Hurdle races and a Bumper abandoned
- Waterlogging forces abandonment of races
- Four new Steeple Chases now programme
Following an inspection and after consultation with the BHA Inspectorate, Hereford Racecourse has been forced to abandon the four Hurdle races and one National Hunt Flat race scheduled for Thursday, 3rd May, due to the Hurdle course being waterlogged in places.
In response, the British Horseracing Authority has created an all-Chase card, consisting of the two Steeple Chases already scheduled plus four additional Steeple Chase opportunities.
Keith Ottesen, Senior Clerk Of the Course at Hereford, said: “Due to parts of the hurdles track at Hereford being waterlogged following 75mm of rain since Wednesday 25th April, and the potential for further spells of heavy rain this week, the decision has been made to abandon the hurdle races and replace them with four additional Steeple Chases. Our thanks go to the BHA’s Racing Department for their swift response in rearranging the race programme.”
