The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, ALBA KING (IRE), ridden by Jonathan England and trained by Sue Smith, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative who stated that he could offer no explanation other than the gelding carried a very light weight in a poor race. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of ALBA KING (IRE) could be reviewed.

The Stewards noted that TORNADO IN MILAN (IRE), placed third, failed to enter the unsaddling enclosure, but being satisfied that this was on veterinary advice, they took no further action.
