Free training is available for UK residents under 19 years of age who wish to take up a career in a racing yard or in the Thoroughbred breeding industry, or who have already secured employment with a licensed racehorse trainer.
This training, leading to NVQs in Racehorse Care, takes place at the Centres approved by the BHEST as the Awarding Body for NVQs in the racing industry. Training starts with a residential course at a Centre and continues in the workplace, either a racing yard or stud.
Previous experience in riding or handling horses is not necessary, nor are any specific academic qualifications. Potential trainees, however, should like animals, want to work outdoors and be prepared to live and work away from home.
All enquiries concerning the training and how to apply should be directly addressed to the Centres. (This training may also be accessible on a fee-paying basis to non-UK residents.)
