Voy Por Ustedes crowned Order of Merit Champion
Welcome to the official Order of Merit website.
The Order of Merit is an adrenalin-charged series of the 69 top Jump races in Britain, featuring the best horses competing head to head from October through to April.
Races are won and lost and points awarded accordingly to discover who will be crowned Order of Merit Champion every year.
Six months ago, the first leg of the 2008/09 Order of Merit took place in the Grade 2 intercasino.co.uk Old Roan Chase at Aintree, which saw Voy Por Ustedes finish in fourth position and collect eight points towards the Order of Merit Title.
Since then, the gallant eight-year-old has run in a further four Order of Merit races over the course of the season including; the Grade 1 Stan James King George VI Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day where he finished third, the Grade 1 Commercial First Chase at Ascot where he trounced the rest of the field by 14 lengths, the Grade 1 Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival which saw him narrowly beaten and finally, his enthralling win just three weeks ago at Aintree in the Grade 1 John Smith’s Melling Chase.
On each occasion he has picked up valuable points, all of which have contributed to his victory as the 2008/09 Order of Merit Champion and scooping the £200,000 first prize.
For the first time this season, a new element was introduced in which 20% of the prize money is donated to a charity of the owner’s choice. Sir Robert Ogden, who is already familiar with the competition having finished as runner-up two season’s ago with Exotic Dancer and third in last year’s renewal with Voy Por Ustedes, nominated the National Autistic Society and Macmillan Cancer Support when the possibility of winning the highly acclaimed title presented itself.
