Introduction
Registration
Yearlings

Horses need to be registered by 31 December of their yearling year. So forms for foals of 2004 must be with Weatherbys by 31st December 2005. These forms will be sent to all registered breeders in mid-2005, and can also be downloaded by clicking here.

Foals entered in foal sales
For horses being sent to the foal sales, you will be asked to complete a separate form, which will allow us to declare ‘provisional eligibility’ to purchasers at the sales.

These provisionally eligible foals will have their eligibility cemented if they are ‘sold under the hammer’ and will not need to re-register. Those not selling will need to re-register if eligibility still stands at June 1 of their yearling year.

This ‘provisional eligibility’ form will also be able to be downloaded from this site closer to the foal sales.

2005 registration costs

Horses registered as yearlings:
  • £32 per horse for TBA and ROA members
  • £40 per horse for non-TBA and non-ROA members

Horses registered for provisional eligibility and sold as foals at Tattersalls, Doncaster Bloodstock Sales or Brightwells:

  • £20 per horse for TBA and ROA members
  • £25 per horse for non-TBA and non-ROA members
Checking eligibility
To check if a horse is registered for BHB Owners’ Premiums click here or call the Owners’ Premiums Desk at Weatherbys on 01933 44 00 77.

Please note that while all reasonable care has been taken by the BHB and Weatherbys in processing registrations for eligibility, the BHB and Weatherbys have necessarily relied on declarations made by breeders and owners in processing registrations and cannot be held liable for any inaccuracies. Registration of eligibility is not necessarily proof of eligibility of any given horse, and prospective buyers are advised to make their own investigations regarding eligibility before buying. No premiums shall be payable in respect of ineligible horses in any circumstances.

Full terms and conditions of the Scheme, including the full rules relating to eligibility, are set out in The Orders and Rules of Racing (Order 197 and Instruction J20). Please note that the Orders and Rules may be amended from time to time (as notified in The Racing Calendar). Those wishing to buy, sell or race horses which may be eligible for the Scheme are advised to read the Scheme rules.

Breeders and purchasers should note that the Scheme may be withdrawn by the BHB at any time, normally on three months notice.
