RaceDay for schools

This filly (a female racehorse) is four years old and is already an experienced campaigner, having won four races last year – all at sprint distances (5f–6f). While she’s unlikely to ever be a superstar, she does compete at a lot of the high profile meetings, and she’s very consistent.

Choice of jockey

As she’s already quite an experienced racehorse, the choice of jockey for her is less important – she knows what she’s doing.

Potential

Her owners could expect her to race quite often: horses recover very quickly when they run over short distances. This will mean that her owners will get to see her in action a lot. However, there will also be more transport costs and jockey fees to consider. The plus side is that as she’s an experienced horse, she can be trained by almost anyone – so there’s no need to send her to the champion trainer. You can therefore save a little money in this respect.

Training

The other benefit of having a horse with a less experienced trainer is that the owners will be able to visit more often and may feel more involved in the training of their horse.

At the end of her racing career, she will probably have a successful career as a broodmare: she will be mated with chosen stallions to produce the racehorses of the future. This can be quite lucrative for her owners.
