Introduction to Regulation

Regulation jobs in horseracing are few and far between – so be prepared for some competition if you want to work in this area! There are some interesting and challenging jobs in rules & regulation, such as:

• Starters, who ensure that all goes smoothly – and fairly – at the start of the race.
• Clerk of the scales, who ensure that all the rules and requirements of racing are being strictly adhered to in the weighing room – the place where all jockeys are weighed before and after the race.
• Judges, who analyse the photo finish of each race and announce the winners on the public address system. They provide a true record of every race.
