RaceDay for schools

Imagine how it feels to travel to Hong Kong with a £2 million racehorse for company. Or to ride a winner at Cheltenham Racecourse. Or to help train a horse that goes on to be a great champion. If you can handle rain, snow, early mornings and very hard work, all this can be yours as you work in a trainer’s yard or stud farm, helping to prepare racehorses for their big race day.

Working in a stable will give you a fantastic outdoor life – no stuffy offices for you! There’s a real career path, too: You can start by taking your NVQ 2 in Racehorse Care, which is free if you’re an EU citizen between the ages of 16 and 25.

What’s more, you’re guaranteed a job in a yard once you’ve passed the Foundation Course. There are plenty more opportunities to develop your skills and your career with more training courses. Perhaps you’ll even end up running your own yard.

In racing – unlike some equestrian industries – there is a specialist association that protects your interest and guarantees your levels of income. You can also look forward to pocketing your share of the prize money when a horse in your stable is a winner.
