The Stewards noted that REV DU JOUR (IRE), placed second, had interfered with DAWN LIGHTENING, unplaced, which in turn interfered with CHESTER’SLITTLEGEM (IRE), unplaced, approaching the three-furlong marker, but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved REV DU JOUR (IRE)’s placing.

The Starter reported that HOW SWEET IT IS (IRE), trained by James Bethell, was the subject of a third criteria failure. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, BUCKIE BOY (IRE), ridden by Andrew Tinkler, and trained by Nicky Henderson, compared with its previous run at Wincanton on 7 January, where the gelding pulled up. They noted the trainer’s representative’s explanation that BUCKIE BOY (IRE) had had a wind operation since its last run. They ordered the gelding to be routine tested.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, OSGOOD, ridden by Will Kennedy, and trained by Mick Channon, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative who stated that the gelding is improving with experience and would have been placed in his last race when he fell at the second last flight. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of OSGOOD could be reviewed.

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the first bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that LITTLE PERISHER, placed second, ridden by Tom McLaughlin, had interfered with HAMBLETON, placed fourth, ridden by Justin Newman. The Stewards found McLaughlin in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift right towards the rail. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Thursday 15, and Friday 16 March 2012.

The Stewards noted that the winner, ROYAL ENVOY (IRE), had interfered with BOBBYOW, placed third, on the run to the line, but after viewing a video recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved ROYAL ENVOY (IRE)’s placing.

The Stewards held an enquiry into the fall of Martin Harley, the rider of LIBERTY LOVE (IRE), approaching two furlongs out. They interviewed Harley and Adam Kirby, the rider of LYTHAM (IRE), placed second. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the incident the Stewards found that the fall was caused by LIBERTY LOVE (IRE) clipping the heels of LYTHAM (IRE). Being satisfied that the incident was accidental, the Stewards took no further action.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, DOLLY COLMAN (IRE), ridden by Richard Kingscote, and trained by Michael Blake, compared with its previous run at Southwell on 7 February where the filly finished ninth of fourteen, beaten 13 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that DOLLY COLMAN (IRE) had benefitted from the change of tactics, and that his stable seemed to be coming into form. They ordered DOLLY COLMAN (IRE) to be routine tested.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why David Kenny, the rider of SATWA LAIRD, unplaced, had been slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start they accepted his explanation that it got stuck on the bridle and it took him three attempts to get it off.
