The Stewards held an enquiry to consider why Nathan Alison, the rider of CRISTALIYEV, unplaced, had appeared to strike his horse after the winning post. Having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the incident they accepted his explanation that he felt the gelding might duck to the right as it had done on a previous occasion.

The Stewards noted that CHJIMES (IRE), placed fourth, had interfered with SLATEY HEN (IRE), unplaced, approaching the four furlong marker but after viewing a recording of the incident they were satisfied that it neither involved a riding offence nor improved CHJIMES (IRE)’s placing.

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference just after the final bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that GODBER (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Phoebe Cruse, had interfered with BARRISTERS BRIEF, unplaced, ridden by Hayley Turner. The Stewards found Cruse in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that she allowed her mount to drift left. They suspended her for 1 day as follows: Saturday 18 February 2012.

The Stewards held an inspection to ascertain whether racing should proceed, due to inclement weather. Having interviewed jockeys Tom Eaves, Russ Kennemore and Chris Catlin, trainers Robin Bastiman and John Wainwright, the Clerk of the Course, the Veterinary Officer and a representative from the racecourse executive, the Stewards considered that it was safe for racing to commence.

The Stewards held an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding a change of jockey on ARCHIE RICE (USA) in this race. Having heard evidence from the Clerk of the Scales and Ryan Clark, the Stewards took no further action.

The Stewards held a second inspection to ascertain whether racing should continue, due to increasing snowfall. Having interviewed jockeys Tom Eaves, Russ Kennemore, Jamie Spencer, Stevie Donohoe and Dane O’Neill, trainers Joe Tuite and Brian Baugh, the Clerk of the Course, the Veterinary Officer and a representative from the racecourse executive, the Stewards considered that racing should be abandoned for safety reasons.
