The Starter reported that AL MANAAL, trained by Saeed bin Suroor, was unruly behind the stalls and withdrawn. The trainer’s attention was drawn to the restriction incurred under Rule (B)44 and informed that the filly could not run until the day after passing a stalls test.

The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Clerk of the Scales that Justin Newman, the rider of the winner, WILD SAUCE, had weighed in at 9st 3lb having weighed out at 9st.1lb. They interviewed the rider, the trainer’s representative and the Clerk of the Scales. Having heard their evidence the Stewards accepted their explanation that the weight change was caused by having to change the girths after weighing out due to them not fitting the filly.

The Stewards held an enquiry following a report from the Starter that NADEEN (IRE), ridden by Andrew Mullen, had been reluctant to race. They interviewed the trainer Michael Smith, and having heard his evidence and viewed recordings of the start the Stewards informed the trainer that future similar behaviour may result in the gelding being reported to the British Horseracing Authority.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, CIRCUITOUS, ridden by Graham Lee and trained by Keith Dalgleish, compared with its previous run at Musselburgh on 15 June where the gelding finished unplaced, beaten approximately 23 lengths. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form.

The Stewards noted that AMIRAH (IRE), unplaced, had interfered with TITUS TITAN (IRE), unplaced, immediately after the start, but after viewing a recording of the race they were satisfied that it did not involve a riding offence.

The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of JUST BOND (IRE), ridden by Dale Swift and trained by Geoffrey Oldroyd, which finished third, beaten two and three-quarter lengths, having made significant progress in the home straight from a position in rear. They interviewed the rider, who explained that his instructions were to drop the gelding out, but that JUST BOND (IRE), who is a difficult ride, became significantly detached in rear. He added that the gelding was able to run on once he hit the rising ground, passing tired horses in what was a fast-run race. He further stated that JUST BOND (IRE) would not have finished closer for more vigorous riding in the early stages. Having heard his evidence and observations from the Handicapper and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted his explanations.

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, SARAH BERRY, ridden by Mirco Demuro and trained by Chris Dwyer, compared with its previous run at Newmarket on 3 August where the filly finished eighth of nine, beaten by 16 lengths. They noted the trainer’s explanation that the filly was much calmer and settled better. They ordered SARAH BERRY to be routine tested.

The Stewards held an enquiry into possible interference on the first bend. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that SUPREME ROCK, unplaced, ridden by Nathan Alison, had interfered with CHATTERATI (USA), unplaced, ridden by Neil Callan, causing him to clip the heels of the winner, GALLIPOT, ridden by William Buick. They found the interference was accidental.

The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, MASARAH (IRE), ridden by Kirsty Milczarek, and trained by Clive Brittain, which had never previously been placed. They interviewed the trainer’s representative who stated that this race was a drop in class for the filly. Having heard his evidence they forwarded his explanation to the British Horseracing Authority so that the previous performances of MASARAH (IRE) could be reviewed.
