Restrictions applying to medication, treatment, feed and water in relation to a horse whilst on racecourse property

Treatments and devices that the Authority’s Equine Science and Welfare Department has reviewed and agreed should not be allowed on Raceday, and why, are listed below.
Trainers are advised to discuss any use of products and treatments ahead of their use.
Note this list is not exhaustive, and serves as guidance to officials and trainers to aid consistency.
1. Game Ready cold compression used to treat leg injuries and minimise pain on racedays.
- No use before racing (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: Race Rule 6.2.2)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
2. Flair Nasal Strips used support the nasal passages and reduce inspiratory airway resistance and peak tracheal inspiratory pressure. No use on raceday as nasal dilator (Race Schd 4).
3. Cornell Collar used to control intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate. No use on racecourse premises, under the Authority’s powers for prohibiting any equipment for use on a horse in a race which, in their opinion, is unsuitable, unsafe or ineffective (General Rule 91).
4. Equiplus' “Equi N Ice” cooling blanket used to cool horses. No use before racing, no use on horses to be tested, and not bought into the sampling box as contains menthol, a prohibited substance which may cause an apparent positive test (General Schd 3).
5. Cryotek used to treat injuries and minimise pain on racedays.
- No use before racing (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: (Race (B) 6.1.9)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
6. Shockwave therapy used to relieve pain and accelerate healing.
- No use on the day before racing (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: (Race Rule 6.2.2)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
7. Nostrilvet intranasal cellulose powder to prevent allergic rhinitis. No use on raceday: only food and water to be offered, (Trainer Rule 33).
8. Zamar Equine cold and massage used to treat leg injuries and minimise pain on racedays.
- No use before racing (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: (Race Rule 6.2.2)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
9. Equiwinner performance device used to improve performance and treat various conditions. No use on racecourse premises, under the Authority’s powers for prohibiting any equipment for use on a horse in a race which, in their opinion, is unsuitable, unsafe or ineffective (General Rule 91).
10. Bonner Bandage when used to treat leg injuries and minimise pain on racedays.
- No use before racing (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: Race Rule 6.2.2)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
11. Heat treatment, including fixed or mobile solariums.
- Use to warm and dry horses whilst on racecourse premises before racing on request to VO (Trainer Rule 33).
- In general no use in the 3 hours before racing or before Veterinary Examination (Stewards can order withdrawal based on VO advice: Race Rule 6.2.2)
- On request to VO can be used after racing (Trainer Rule 33).
