Industry Commitment: Diversity & Inclusion in British Racing

Launched in 2021, the Industry Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion brings together organisations across British racing around a shared ambition: to build a sport that is welcoming, inclusive and accessible to all.

This page provides a central place to understand the Industry Commitment, access supporting resources, and find updates on activity and progress across the industry. Content will continue to develop over time as new tools, learning and insights become available.

What is the Industry Commitment?

The Industry Commitment formalises British racing’s collective approach to diversity and inclusion. Organisations that sign the Commitment agree to take action and report progress across five core areas:

• Leadership and Accountability
• Good Governance
• Education and Awareness Raising
• Celebrating and Supporting Racing’s Diversity
• Engaging New Audiences

Each signatory organisation identifies their own priorities and publishes a Diversity & Inclusion Action Plan, with progress reviewed and updated annually.

What support is available?

Supporting tools and guidance

To support organisations in delivering against the Industry Commitment, a range of practical tools, guidance and learning resources is available. These resources are designed to be used flexibly, recognising the diversity of organisations across racing and the different stages of their inclusion journey. Contact us for more information.

A full resource directory will be developed and added to this page.

Learning from engagement and feedback

As part of the Industry Commitment, the BHA regularly seeks feedback from signatory organisations to understand progress, challenges and support needs.

A summary of findings from the most recent Industry Commitment engagement survey is available below.

These insights are used to shape future activity, resources and learning opportunities.

Looking ahead: building shared insight

Over time, this page will also bring together insight and data on diversity and inclusion activity across the industry. This will help organisations understand progress, spot patterns, and share learning collectively.

This work is being developed in phased and will be added here as it becomes available.

Who this is for?

This page is primarily intended for:

• D&I Champions and leads from Industry Commitment Signatory Organisations
• Board Members and senor leaders
• HR, People and governance colleagues
• Communications and engagement teams

Resources have been designed to be practical and proportionate, recognising that many organisations support diversity and inclusion alongside other responsibilities.
