THE LONGINES WORLD’S BEST RACEHORSE RANKINGS
The official listing of the world’s best racehorses
(For 3yos and upwards which raced between 1 January and 10 August 2014)
JUST A WAY (JPN) [130] retained his position at the top of the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2014 for the fifth consecutive month for his victory back in March in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes (G1) at Meydan. However two improving three-year-olds are now closing in on him, including TAGHROODA (GB) [124] who enters the top echelon for the first time and thus becomes the joint highest rated filly in the world this year.
Rank | Horse | Rating | Trained |

1 | JUST A WAY (JPN) | 130 | JPN |
2 | KINGMAN (GB) | 126 | GB |
2 | VARIETY CLUB (SAF) | 126 | UAE |
4 | GAME ON DUDE (USA) | 125 | USA |
4 | SEA THE MOON (GER) | 125 | GER |
6 | CALIFORNIA CHROME (USA) | 124 | USA |
6 | GOLD SHIP (JPN) | 124 | JPN |

6 | THE FUGUE (GB) | 124 | GB |
The King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) sponsored by QIPCO British Champion Series in July saw a hugely impressive performance by the unbeaten three-year-old filly Taghrooda (GB). She came home three lengths clear of TELESCOPE (Ire) [123], with MUKHADRAM (GB) [122] and EAGLE TOP (GB) [120] further behind. All of the placed horses had won their previous races comfortably. It takes a special filly to beat the boys at Group 1 level and it will be interesting to see how connections plan out the rest of her campaign. Reportedly her next race will be back among her own sex in the Yorkshire Oaks (G1).
KINGMAN (GB) [126] won the QIPCO Sussex Stakes (G1) at the end of the month thus becoming the winner of six of his seven races but he did not need to replicate the level of his performance in the St James’s Palace Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot in order to do so. A more severe test for Kingman is likely to come at Deauville in the Prix Jacques Le Marois (G1).
Moving up the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings from joint fifth to fourth this month is SEA THE MOON (GER) [125] who was a spectacular winner of the IDEE Deutsches Derby (G1) at Hamburg back in June. At the time the unbeaten son of Sea The Stars (Ire) was rated at 124 but subsequently the horse that finished second to him, Lucky Lion (GB) won the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Bayerisches Zuchtrennen (G1) at Munich so the Longines WBRR Committee have raised the rating of Sea The Moon collaterally.
A new addition to the list for this month is BAYERN (USA) [121] who was a comfortable winner of the William Hill Haskell Invitational Stakes (G1) at Monmouth Park by seven lengths. This was his second victory in succession by more than seven lengths in a Graded Stakes.
The LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings are compiled by the LONGINES World’s Best Racehorse Rankings Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA).
