ALL-HURDLE CARD PROGRAMMED FOR TAUNTON ON TUESDAY FEBRUARY 19TH

15 Feb 2013 Pre-2014 Releases

After recent rain in the region, the Steeple Chase course at Taunton remains unraceable. In conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Inspectorate, the Taunton Executive has been forced to abandon the Steeple Chases scheduled for Tuesday, February 19th. In response, the BHA has programmed an additional Hurdle race to make up a six-race card. Taunton’s going on the Hurdles course is currently described as Heavy.

The new race will close at noon on Saturday, February 16th. Declarations are to be made in line with the existing races by 10am on Monday, February 18th.

Bob Young, Chief Executive at Taunton, reported:

“Even though the course has only had a further 30mm of rain since the 7th February, it has still not fully recovered from the deluge it received prior to that. The Hurdle course remains Heavy, but the Steeplechase course is still waterlogged in places.

“We are grateful to the Racing Department at the BHA for again helping us to run an all-hurdle card with a bumper to finish. The forecast is now settled for the next week or so and we hope we will back on track for our meeting on the 28th February.”
