12 Mar 2013 Pre-2014 Releases

The following are a selection of comments from the BHA Handicappers regarding key performances from today’s Cheltenham Festival.

Please note, all ratings quoted are provisional.

David Dickinson on the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle

“Not only is Champagne Fever – on a provisional mark of 158 – the highest rated winner of the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in the last 10 years, the second home My Tent Or Yours, in running to 156, is also rated higher than all of those previous winners. Jezki, who finished third, is provisionally rated as high as the 2011 winner Al Ferof.”

John de Moraville on the Racing Post Arkle Chase

“Simonsig extended his unbeaten record over fences by landing the odds in the Racing Post Arkle, recording a preliminary rating of 165. Runner up Baily Green (162) ran the race of his life in second place with His Excellency (third) confirming his mark in the low 150s.”

David Dickinson on the Stan James Champion Hurdle

“Hurricane Fly became the first horse since Comedy Of Errors to regain the Stan James Champion Hurdle when avenging last year’s defeat by Rock on Ruby. In doing so he has provisionally replicated the 173 rating he achieved when winning the race in 2011.”
