Disciplinary Hearing to be Held Into Lingfield Abandonment

Published: 12 January 2001

The Disciplinary Committee of the Jockey Club will be holding an enquiry to consider whether or not Arena Leisure Plc, the Managing Executive of Lingfield Park Racecourse, have committed a breach of Rule 80 (ii) (a) of the Rules of Racing in that the inspection protocol was not followed by the Racecourse Executive following the acting Clerk of the Course’s inspection of the track at 6.00am on the morning of racing, when it was found that the pad on the all weather track was frozen.

The Committee will also consider whether or not Arena Leisure Plc have committed a breach of Rule 220 (iii) of the Rules of Racing, in respect of their failure to keep owners, trainers, jockeys and the general public fully appraised of the state of the course, and the chances of racing taking place at Lingfield Park on 30th December 2000.

12th January 2001

Notes for Editors:

1. The meeting on December 30th was eventually abandoned by the Stewards following an inspection as a result of the concerns expressed by the jockeys after they arrived at the start for the first race.

2. No date for the enquiry has been set.

3. The Jockey Club’s General Instructions, which are issued to all racecourses, include an inspection protocol.
