Carlisle racecourse in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has taken the decision to abandon the steeple chases programmed to take place on Thursday, 11 May.

The continued dry spell combined with a problem with watering equipment has left the chase course Firm; Good to Firm in places. With no rain forecast and the reduced watering capacity it was been agreed that it would not be possible to get the chase course to suitable safe racing ground.

The going on the Hurdle course is currently described as Good to Firm, Good in places.

The BHA Racing Department has therefore programmed two additional Hurdle races, one of which mirrors the Confined Handicap from Wincanton’s abandoned card on the same day, as well as an Intermediate National Hunt Flat race.

The new races will close at noon on Tuesday, 9 May.

Declarations to run must be made in line with the existing races on the card by 10am on Wednesday, 10 May.
