All-Hurdle/NHF card programmed for Exeter on 26 April

19 Apr 2017 Racecourse Racing/Fixtures

Due to the continued dry spell and Exeter’s limited watering capabilities, Exeter racecourse in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Inspectorate has taken the decision to abandon the Steeple Chases scheduled for 26 April and concentrate efforts on watering one course to maximise the resources available.  Focusing the watering on one course should enable the racecourse to provide as close to Good ground as possible by race day on one track, and avoid running an entire fixture on ground which is overly firm.

The BHA Racing Department has programmed two additional Hurdle races and a Standard Open National Hunt Flat race in order to safeguard this fixture.

The three new races will close at noon on Thursday, 20 April. Declarations are to be made in line with the existing races by 10am on Tuesday, 25 April.

Clerk of the Course, Barry Johnson said:

“Just watering one course gives us the best chance of producing good ground, the team will repair the hurdle course by Thursday night and then concentrate all their efforts into watering the Hurdle course with tankers from Friday onwards.”
