Private Member’s Bill to Ban Hunting

Published: 17 June 1997

Commenting on the proposed Private Member’s Bill to ban hunting, the Senior Steward, Sir Thomas Pilkington, said today:

“The Jockey Club strongly supports the BHB’s statement opposing this ban. It has long been our conviction that National Hunt racing and Point-to-Pointing have their roots in the hunting field and if hunting were to be abolished it would have a most damaging effect on both.

“The Jockey Club will also be supporting the Countryside Rally in Hyde Park on 10th July and I hope as many people as possible will be able to join us under the Horseracing banner.”
