All-Steeple Chase card programmed for Newcastle on 3 February

  • Hurdle races abandoned after further rain
  • Four new Steeple Chases added to form six race card 

After further rainfall this week, the Hurdle course at Newcastle is waterlogged.  With no chance of recovering before racing, the Newcastle Executive in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Inspectorate, has been forced to abandon the Hurdle races scheduled for Wednesday, 3 February.

The BHA has therefore programmed four additional Steeple Chases in an attempt to safeguard this fixture.

Newcastle’s going on the Chase course is currently described as Heavy; Soft in places.

The new races, will close at noon on Saturday, 30 January. Declarations are to be made in line with the existing races by 10am on Tuesday, 2 February.

2:00 The Phoenix Eye Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4)
2:35 The Homecare Plus Novices’ Steeple Chase (Class 4)
3:10 The Northridge Novices’ Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 3)
3:45 The Bar B Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4)
4:20 The Yolo Handicap Steeple Chase (Class 4)
