STEEPLE CHASES ABANDONED AT EXETER ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST, 2002

Due to the prolonged period of dry weather, Exeter Racecourse has been forced to abandon the two steeple chases scheduled to take place at its meeting on Tuesday, October 1st. The ground on the chase course is currently described as hard and with no rain forecast until Tuesday, the Jockey Club Inspectorate has agreed that the chase course will not be raceable. Watering is taking place on the hurdles course.

The British Horseracing Board has created two extra hurdle races that will take the place of the steeple chases. The additional races will close at noon on Saturday, September 28th, 2002. The revised order of running is as follows and the additional races are attached:

2.10 The Portman Selling Handicap Hurdle Race (Class G)
2.40 The Portman Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class E)
3.10 The Portman Juvenile Maiden Hurdle Race (Class D)
3.40 The Portman Exeter Handicap Hurdle Race (Class D)
4.10 The BOC Sureflow Amateur Riders’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class E)
4.40 The Portman Handicap Hurdle Race (Class D)
