TAKE THE STAND NAMED BHB SUMMER JUMPING CHAMPION

25 Sep 2004 Pre-2014 Releases

Take The Stand, trained by Peter Bowen, was today announced as the BHB Summer Jumping Champion in recognition of his performances this summer and his contribution to raising the profile of Summer Jumping.

In a ceremony at Market Rasen racecourse, Take The Stand’s stable staff were presented with a cheque for £5,000 by BHB Marketing Director Chris John. Presentations were also made to Peter Bowen, and The Courters – the partnership that owns Take The Stand.

Take The Stand excelled in Summer Jumping this year, proving himself to be a highly-progressive chaser. He was second in a handicap hurdle at Newton Abbot in June, before carrying top weight to victory in both the Britannia Building Society English Summer National at Uttoxeter and the Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap Chase at Newton Abbot. He picked up over £70,000 in prize money in the two races.

The BHB Summer Jumping Championship complements the recent Jump Racing Review, which pointed to the advantages of creating a greater distinction between the Summer and Winter Jumping seasons.

A panel of industry experts drew up an initial longlist of contenders for the award, before forming a shortlist of three, and then deciding upon Take The Stand as the most worthy winner.

BHB Marketing Director Chris John said: “I am delighted that Take The Stand has been named BHB Summer Jumping Champion, and particularly pleased to have presented Peter Bowen’s stable staff with £5,000.

“Take The Stand’s victories under top weight in two of the biggest chases this summer were terrific achievements, and a tribute to all those associated with the horse. I hope that Take The Stand is able to continue progressing and make as big an impact in the forthcoming Winter Jumping season.”
