TRISTRAM RICKETTS APPEAL: 2010 VIRGIN LONDON MARATHON – 25TH APRIL 2010

22 Apr 2010 Pre-2014 Releases

For Sunday’s London Marathon, British Horseracing is fielding a team of 23 to run in aid of the Spinal Injuries Association and the Tristram Ricketts Appeal.

The team includes:

Michael Wilson (Racing UK)

Ian Renton, Lizzie Lea, Luke Harvey and James Oldring have, unfortunately, had to withdraw with vets’ certificates.

The Spinal Injuries Association would like to thank the whole team for their dedication; donors for their support; and James Oldring for organising the team. Over £28,000 has been raised so far – a fantastic achievement.

Tristram, who died sadly in November 2007, was one of the most popular and respected figures in British Racing.  In his memory, an appeal is underway to raise £150,000 for the Spinal Injuries Association Academy, which provides a forum for expert discussion of research and medical innovation as well as offering training and education expertise, thus playing a vital role in the future betterment of the lives of paralysed people.

Jon Ryan, BHA Director of Communications (and competitor), said:
“The response has been incredible both from those taking part and the hundreds who have contributed by way of sponsorship. The gain is there for the Tristram Ricketts Appeal and the SIA, and now the pain is imminent for those of us mad enough to take on 26.2miles around London on what is forecast to be the hottest day of the year so far!”
