BHA works closely with stakeholders across the industry to devise strategies in four key areas, Vocational Training, Careers Marketing, Jockey Training and Community (& Education) Engagement.

A variety of training programmes are developed, co-ordinated and maintained by BHA, ensuring that there is adequate training in place for current and potential employees in the industry.

BHA maintains www.careersinracing.com an information portal giving guidance on the careers and training available within the Racing and Breeding industries, as well as offering a free job board for employers and employees. A coordinated careers marketing campaign supports the industries recruitment needs.

Key training activity includes:

• Stable Staff Programme run by the British Racing School (BRS) and the Northern Racing College (NRC) which sees hundreds of industry funded recruits complete an apprenticeship and take up jobs in racing yards across the country
• Stud staff training at the National Stud from stable staff to management level
• A comprehensive training programme for jockeys including amateur riders and point to point riders at the BRS and the NRC
• A Jockey Coaching programme to support the development and ongoing training of newly licensed Jockeys
• Staff Management Courses run by the British Racing School and the Northern Racing College for supervisory staff and Trainers courses for potential trainers wishing to apply for their licences
• The Graduate Development Programme, a comprehensive graduate opportunity for up to 20 people per year, which includes a two-week residential course, followed by a paid placement lasting around eight weeks with a high profile organisation from the racing and breeding industries
• A number of courses are run by Training Providers on the BHA’s behalf including The Racing Industry Course, Overview days and Health and Safety seminars.
