  • Four further Jump fixtures to be confirmed for Sundays in April and May

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today announced that additional Jump fixtures will take place at Wincanton on the afternoon of Monday 9 April and Hereford on the afternoon of Tuesday 10 April.

Entries for both fixtures, which will be seven race cards, will close tomorrow at 12 noon, Friday 6 April. Declarations for Wincanton will close at the 24 hour stage on Sunday 8 April with declarations for Hereford on Monday 9 April.

The full race programmes and further fixture information will be available via the racing admin site www2.racingadmin.co.uk.

In addition, due to the high level of interruption that has occurred throughout the second half of the Jump season,  four further Jump fixtures will be offered out to racecourses on the following Sundays to cater for the increased number of horses expected to be seeking an additional late season run:

15 April
22 April
6 May
13 May

These fixture slots, which have been agreed with support from the Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB), will be offered out to Racecourses shortly, with more details published  as and when they are confirmed.

Paul Johnson, Head of Racing at the BHA, said:

“Given the prolonged spell of wet weather has led to another period of abandonments in what has already been a challenging season for many, and the high number of entries we are beginning to see we were keen to act to add immediate additional opportunities for horses that may otherwise miss out.

Looking further ahead we are currently in the process of also offering out additional jump fixtures to racecourses to take place on Sundays over the coming weeks. We expect the additional opportunities that these fixtures will provide to be welcomed by horsemen, many of whom have endured a difficult season so far and will provide more detail as it becomes available. Given the lack of capacity at any northern racecourse to stage the fixtures offered out on Monday and Tuesday we are particularly hopeful that we will be able to provide some positive news for that region when we offer out the Sunday fixtures in the coming days.

“Our thanks go to Wincanton and Hereford for staging these fixtures at such short notice and to the Levy Board for their support in enabling this to happen.
