Ayr Monday 25 July Sprint Races Abandoned – New Races Programmed

18 Jul 2016 Racing/Fixtures

  • Remedial work completed on Straight Course, but surface needs time to recover
  • Two races abandoned on 25 July
  • Two replacement races on round course added
  • Further investigative work to be carried out
  • 6 August – anticipated resumption of racing on Straight Course

Remedial work to repair the collapsed drain on Ayr’s Straight Course has now been completed. However, in order to give the surface time to recover, the two races due to take place on the straight course on Monday, 25 July have been abandoned and replaced by two new races on the round course. Further investigative work will be undertaken on the whole track later this week to determine whether more work is necessary. The expectation is that racing on the straight course will resume at the next fixture, Saturday, 6 August and an announcement will be made once the exploratory work is complete and endorsed by the BHA Course Inspector.

Therefore, race numbers 45083 and 45087 over six furlongs and five furlongs respectively have been abandoned. In their place, a Class 4 handicap for three yrs old and upwards over seven furlongs and a Class 5 handicap for three yrs old and upwards over one mile about two furlongs have been added to the card.

The new races will close according to the normal schedule at noon on Tuesday, 19 July. Declarations are to be made by 10am on Saturday, 23 July.
