BHA confirms switch of two Group races from abandoned Sandown fixture to Newmarket’s QIPCO Guineas Festival

The BHA has today confirmed that the Mile (Group 2) and the Gordon Richard Stakes (Group 3) will be re-scheduled to Newmarket next week.

The Mile will be run on Friday’s card (5th May) and the Gordon Richards on Sunday (7th), making eight race cards on both days. Previous entries and declarations will be cancelled and both races re-opened to close at the normal six-day stage; noon on Saturday 29th April for the Mile and Monday 1st May for the Gordon Richards.

All original entrants must re-enter if they wish to run, whilst the race is now open to all other eligible horses, whether they had previously entered or not.

The BHA is grateful to Jockey Club Racecourses for agreeing to facilitate and support these races, which have been considered necessary to reschedule due to the limited alternative opportunities in the programme book over the coming fortnight.

The BHA is also grateful to the Horserace Betting Levy Board, who have kindly agreed to maintain their original contribution of £52,000 across both races.

Additional funding is being provided to the races directly by the BHA, however due to the complication involved with re-scheduling races at short notice, these races will be run below their normal Minimum Values. The Mile will now be run at £80,000 and the Gordon Richards at £45,000.
