“BHB Secretary-General, Tristram Ricketts, commenting on the Chancellor of the Excheque?_x0019_s Pre-Budget Statement, said today:
“The Chancellor’s Statement today represents the positive signal of change for which the Racing and Betting industries were looking. We welcome the Government’s explicit acknowledgement that there is scope for modernising the way in which betting is taxed in the UK, which we have consistently said is vital if the growing threat of offshore betting activity is to be effectively addressed and revenues are to be protected. We look forward to participating in the further discussions which are now in prospect, with a view to ensuring that Racing’s interests, as well as those of other parties, are fully taken into account when the Chancellor makes a further announcement in his March 2001 Budget.”
