BRITISH HORSERACING AUTHORITY COMMENT ON TOTE ANNOUNCEMENT

03 Jun 2011 Pre-2014 Releases

We acknowledge this morning’s announcement from the Government in relation to the Tote and the commitments that have been made to Racing throughout this process.

Commenting on the announcement, Paul Roy, Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority said:

“The success of the Tote depends upon a constructive, meaningful and mutually beneficial partnership with Racing. Throughout the sale process we have always sought the best deal for racing, which was vital because, despite its pre-eminent position globally, British racing is facing significant financial pressures which are seriously impacting the communities and people that rely on the sport for their livelihoods. Our support for the SIP bid has been well documented and naturally today’s announcement was not our preferred outcome, but we will now work with Betfred and the Government to ensure their commitments are delivered upon, both in relation to the Tote and other areas of industry reform.”
