Paul Roy, Chairman of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), said:
“I, and everyone at the BHA who worked closely with Michael over the years, are saddened to hear that he has lost his life after a battle with illness.
“Over many years Michael made a huge contribution to our sport. He provided exemplary service as a Jockey Club representative on the BHB Board from 2004 until the inception of the BHA in 2007, and then as a member of the Disciplinary Review Group from 2009 until the current time.
“However, more importantly, on a personal note I found his knowledge and counsel invaluable and he was respected by everyone for his measured and balanced approach to regulatory issues.
“Everyone who knew Michael will know what a delightful and genuine person he was. He will be sorely missed and our thoughts are with Annie and all his family.”
