Jockey Club Commissions External Review of Security Department

The Jockey Club has appointed the Control Risks Group to carry out a review of the structure and activities of its Security Department to ensure the cost effective provision of security based services for the protection of the integrity of racing. The review will begin in October and take approximately six weeks.

As part of the Review the Consultants will be contacting the Racecourse Association, National Trainers Federation, Jockeys Association of Great Britain Ltd, and other racing and betting organisations.

Control Risks Group are also supplying the services of Major-General Jeremy Phipps to act as interim Head of Security pending the outcome of the Review. He takes up his position on 18th September.

Major-General Jeremy Phipps CB:-
Jeremy Phipps joined Control Risks Group in May 2000. As Director Special Accounts he has special responsibility for developing relationships with key international clients, identifying client requirements in the business risk area, advising on and providing bespoke services. He has experience in fraud risk and prevention, personnel and physical security, contingency planning and crisis management.

Jeremy Phipps retired from the British Army in 1997 as a Major General, having served for 37 years with The Queen’s Own Hussars and the Special Air Service. From 1993-1997 he was the senior military adviser to the Sultanate of Oman where he was responsible for providing military advice and training policy at Secretary of State/Defence Committee level. From 1989-1993, he was Director UK Special Forces and had overall responsibility for their strategic and operational direction. He had regular dealings with UK Government agencies, Security Services, Police, Customs & Excise and overseas governments. Such an appointment required good political awareness, being sensitive to the different demands of government ministries, the ability to develop strong relationships at the highest level, plus high quality presentation and communication skills.
