Jockey Club Supports Bhb’s Opposition to Hunting Ban
Published: 20 July 1999
Commenting on the prospect of legislation banning hunting, the Senior Steward of the Jockey Club, Christopher Spence, said today:
“The Jockey Club strongly supports the BHB’s statement opposing the introduction of a bill to ban hunting. It has long been our conviction that National Hunt racing and Point to Pointing have their roots in the hunting field and if hunting were abolished it would have a most damaging effect on both. Many of the sport’s current participants, both human and equine, were brought up in the hunting field and so not only is it part of racing’s history, but it also continues to be relevant today.”
