Listed Bumper to be run at Newbury on Friday 22 March

25 Feb 2019 BHA Features Racing/Fixtures

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has today confirmed that Newbury Racecourse will host a Listed bumper worth £20,000 at their meeting on Friday 22 March.

This is to replace the opportunity lost when the fixture on Saturday 9 February, at which a Listed bumper  was due to take place, was cancelled due to equine influenza.

Entries for the race will close at 12 noon on Saturday 16 March along with the rest of the card with declarations at the 24 hour stage as normal. Race conditions and other fixture information will be available via the racing admin site www2.racingadmin.co.uk shortly.

Stuart Middleton, Racing Operations Manager at the BHA, said:

“Since losing Newbury’s fixture in early February, we have been contacted by a number trainers who had been aiming for the bumper with nice young horses which might not be ready to run at the major Festivals at this stage of their careers.

It has produced some outstanding horses down the years and given there are no further equivalent opportunities in the programme outside of Cheltenham and Aintree, Newbury’s meeting at the end of March is the obvious place to get the race back on.  Hopefully the re-scheduled race should be just as competitive as the one last month was due to be.

“Thanks go to Newbury and the Levy Board for their assistance in getting the race back on.”
