LUCK OF THE DRAW – BATH RACEGOER A WINNER ON FRENCH RACETRACK

11 Dec 2000 Pre-2014 Releases

“Going Sunday racing at Bath racecourse this summer proved very lucky for Julia Acklam, who has been drawn as the winner in the national prize draw competition†_x001C_Gee Gee Up Your Sunday?_x001D_. She wins a fantastic weekend trip for her and her family to Paris for the French Guineas at Longchamp in May 2001.

Julia, from nearby Batheasten, was thrilled with her good fortune and couldn’t wait to break the news to husband David.

She said: “This is the first time we have ever won anything – he really won’t believe that we have won such a fantastic prize. It’s my birthday in May, so it will be such a wonderful birthday treat. We have two small boys, Alex aged 2 and a 7 month old, Joe but, although they have both already been racing, I think they may be a little young for the trip – so we’ll probably invite David’s sister and husband to join us. I am sure they won’t believe our luck either.”

The Acklams are among the increasing number of families enjoying Sunday racing. 2000 saw a substantial expansion of the Sunday Racing programme, with 62 fixtures at 43 courses on 20 racing Sundays, 14 of them consecutive. BHB marketing executive Ginny Lemarie, also chair of BHB’s Sunday Racing Promotions Group, said: “It’s terrific to see families enjoying a great day out at the races and this year we have been delighted to see a new audience coming to racecourses across Britain”.
