Provisional All-Hurdle card programmed for Wincanton on 20 February

16 Feb 2016

• Steeple Chases at risk with further rain forecast
• Three new provisional races programmed

After recent rain in the region, the steeple chase course at Wincanton is now described as Heavy. If the upper end of the forecast proves accurate, the Steeple Chase course may not be fit for racing on Saturday. With this in mind, the British Horseracing Authority’s Racing Department has programmed a provisional all-Hurdle card in an effort to safeguard this fixture. Wincanton’s going on the Hurdles course is currently described as Soft, Heavy in places.

The decision on whether to abandon the Steeple Chases and activate an all-Hurdle card will be made by 2pm on Thursday.

The provisional card consists of the four existing Hurdle races, plus two additional Hurdle races and a National Hunt Flat race. The three provisional races will be free to enter and close at noon on Wednesday, 17 February.

Should this provisional card be activated, declarations are to be made in line with the existing Hurdle races by 10am on Friday, 19 February.

The provisional, revised running order would be staged as below.

01:40 31067 The Bathwick Tyres Salisbury Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 4)

02:15 31069 The Bathwick Tyres Taunton Maiden Hurdle Race (Class 4)
