Due to the continued dry spell and the fact that Wincanton’s reservoir is running low, Wincanton Racecourse in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) Inspectorate has taken the decision to programme two provisional hurdle races on 11 May, to safeguard the fixture against abandonment, should no appreciable rain arrive over the weekend.
This will allow efforts to be concentrated on watering the Hurdle course which should enable the racecourse to provide safe Jumping ground. The going is currently described as firm, good to firm in places.
The BHA Racing Department has programmed two additional provisional Hurdle races, which will close in line with existing races at noon on Friday, 5 May.
The decision on whether to abandon the Steeple Chases and activate an all-Hurdle card will be made by 2pm on Monday, 8 May.
Revised times and running order follow below:
18:00 02744 The 188bet Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 4)
18:30 02742 The Bovis Homes Southwest “Confined” Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 3)
19:00 02747 The 188bet Mares’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 4)
19:30 02748 The Rowcliffes Of Yeovil Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 4)
20:00 02745 The Fry Electrical Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle Race (Class 4)
(NHMOPS Bonus Race)
20:30 02746 The 188bet Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle Race (Class 5)
Clerk of the Course, Barry Johnson said:
“Our reservoir is running low so we have taken the decision to concentrate our efforts on watering the Hurdle course only. There is the chance of rain over the weekend and we want to give the chases every chance so will make a decision as to an all hurdle card on Monday.”
