RACEHORSE OWNER HARRY FINDLAY CHARGED WITH PLACING LAY BETS ON HIS OWN HORSE

Racehorse owner Harry Findlay has been charged in connection with laying his own horse, Gullible Gordon, on two occasions. On both occasions, back bets had been placed on the horse that significantly outweighed the lay bets. The charges are as follows:

In relation to the first race in question, the Dartmouth Term of “65” England Expects Amateur Riders’ Novices’ Hurdle at Exeter at on 21st October 2008, did Mr Findlay act in breach of Rule 247 in that he placed lay bets against GULLIBLE GORDON with Betfair to the sum of around £17,638, and/or instructed another person on his behalf to do so and/or received the whole or part of the proceedings of such an act, at a time when he was the owner of, and/or a person who played an active part in the management of, and/or a service provider to an owner of the horse.

In relation to the second race in question, the Freebets.co.uk Free Bets Novices’ Chase at Chepstow on 10 October 2009, did Mr Findlay act in breach of Rule (E)92.2 in that he placed lay bets against GULLIBLE GORDON with Betfair to the sum of around £32,033, and/or instructed another person to do so on his behalf and/or received the whole or part of the proceeds of such an act at a time when he was a Listed Person in relation to GULLIBLE GORDON because he was the owner of, and/or played an active part in managing the horse; alternatively

did Mr Findlay act in breach of Rule (A)35.4 in that he placed lay bets against GULLIBLE GORDON with Betfair to the sum of around £32,033, and/or instructed another person to do so on his behalf and/or received the whole or part of the proceeds of such an act at a time when he was a service provider to an owner of the horse.

A Disciplinary Panel hearing will be convened in due course.
