Replacement Flat fixture programmed at Chelmsford City on Saturday 16 April

15 Apr 2016 Racing/Fixtures

Following the abandonment of racing at Newbury on Saturday 16 April, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has programmed an additional Flat fixture at Chelmsford City racecourse.

All races will be transferred to the nearest equivalent distances at Chelmsford City and the five-day entries made at Newbury will stand.  Trainers wishing to run at Chelmsford City have been informed that they must declare to run by 4.00pm today, 15 April. Horses in handicaps will be running off their All Weather marks, where appropriate.

Race times will stay the same and four races from the card will be covered on Channel 4 Racing, as originally scheduled.

Paul Johnson, Head of Racing for the BHA, said:

“The rapid deterioration in the weather at Newbury meant that this fixture had to be rescheduled at extremely late notice.

“This created significant challenges but we felt that it was important that the Newbury card, which contains some critical Guineas trials, should be rearranged on behalf of the connections of the horses and the betting public.

“Because of the proximity of the fixture to the Guineas meeting it was felt that it was essential to stage the rescheduled card as early as possible. It also would have been very unlikely that the fixture would receive the necessary funding without Channel 4 coverage,

“Our thanks go to Newbury for making an early decision on their fixture, Chelmsford City for stepping in to stage the card, Weatherbys, and the Horserace Betting Levy Board for their financial assistance at short notice.”
