SIX AND SEVEN FURLONG RACES ABANDONED AT NEWCASTLE ON 26TH APRIL

13 Apr 2010 Pre-2014 Releases

Due to the slow recovery of the drainage lines at Newcastle, it has been decided in conjunction with the British Horseracing Authority Racecourse Inspectorate that no races further than 5f will be able to take place on the straight course at their meeting on April 26th.

James Armstrong, Clerk of the Course, explained: “The prolonged cold winter and slow start to spring means that there has been a delay to establishing grass on the drains installed in October last year. As a result we would like to give the affected area a little more time to recover before we race over them in May.”

Therefore the following races have been abandoned:

2:10 41761 The IPC Security Handicap Stakes (Class 2)

2:40 41762 The LA Taxis Conditions Stakes (Class 3)

3:10 41763 The Ipcsecurity.Co.Uk Handicap Stakes (Class 4)

4:10 41765 The Complete Football Handicap Stakes (Class 6)

The BHA has added four new races over five and eight furlongs. All eight furlong races, including the existing race 41766 The Gosforth Decorating & Building Services Handicap Stakes (Class 6) will be run on the round course.

Full race conditions for the new races are attached below.

The closing date of 20th April for all races remains unaltered.
