The Jockey Club Confirms Plans to Review Relationship With Rht

Published: 25 July 2001

The Senior Steward of the Jockey Club today confirmed that a Review would be undertaken to consider any conflicts of interest which might exist between the roles of The Jockey Club as Regulator and as the owner of Racecourse Holdings Trust, and also its representation on BHB as the owner of Racecourse Holdings Trust.

Christopher Spence, Senior Steward of the Jockey Club, said: “A Review of the relationship between the Jockey Club as Regulator and as the owner of thirteen racecourses will get underway as soon as the members of the Review Group and its terms of reference have been agreed upon. The Review Group will include both independent and Jockey Club members.”

He continued: “In the light of BHB`s decision to review its constitution and a number of its Articles, including those relating to conflicts of interest, the Review Group will consider any conflicts arising from the Jockey Club representation on BHB as the owner of RHT as soon as the result of the BHB’s own review and any consequences of it are known.”

“I am confident that a combination of our own and BHB`s review will address any detrimental conflicts of interest and clarify matters for the future.”
