Following the Wednesday 25 June fixture at Bath, the BHA Inspectorate has approved the transfer of their next scheduled fixture on Wednesday 2 July to Chepstow.
Due to the prolonged period of dry weather and the challenges that Bath faces with its ability to water, the track has been deemed unraceable. The lack of watering system and forecast dry weather will impact on the racecourse’s ability to undertake appropriate remedial work following yesterday’s fixture and prepare an appropriate racing line for Wednesday 2 July.
As such, the racing surface will be given further time to recover and prepare for the fixture on Wednesday 16 July.
The programmed races will remain on turf at Chepstow, with the relevant race distance adjustments. Please note that the Class 6 over 1m6f will now be programmed as a 2m race due to the available starts at the racecourse.
Races will be published this morning, with entries to close at noon, Friday 27 June.
Bath Clerk of the Course Ben Hicks said: “With the ongoing dry, windy weather, we have been doing everything we can to maintain the racing surface at Bath, which we have been able to do up until this point using bowsers. Thanks to the hard work of the Grounds Team, we had no issues with racing yesterday, 25 June.
“However, we will not be able to get enough water on to the track to both recover from yesterday’s fixture and prepare for next week, meaning an appropriate racing line will not be available. The high winds that we have been experiencing would only exacerbate the hot and dry conditions, with a significant amount of the water we do get on to the track simply evaporating.”
